Lancaster Historical Society
Lancaster Historical Society was established in 1969 with a mission to preserve Lancaster’s heritage, protect it’s historic buildings and sites, and educate the public. The Society owns, operates, and maintains the Historic MKT Depot, built in 1888, and the Memorial Rose Garden, created as a Sesquicentennial project in 1986. Meetings are held every other month beginning in January on the third Sunday of the month at 3:30 pm at the Depot. Programs are designed to illustrate Lancaster’s history, famous and infamous people, places, and things. The Society is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation.
Memberships and Donations
Membership in Lancaster Historical Society demonstrates your committment to our community and your support of the Society’s mission. Three levels of membership are offered – Individual at $15; Family at $25; and Business at $35. Donations, at any level, are always welcome!
Donations and dues are deductible to the full extent allowed by law.

- April – LHS Bratmobile at Lancaster Country Bike Ride
- May – Dinner in the Rose Garden
- October – Oktoberfest and Fall Festival at Town Square
- December – Lancaster Parade of Lights
Historic Landmark Designations
The Society works with owners of historic homes and landmarks to establish historical status. If you are interested in pursuing historical status for a site, please review criteria in the application below . The Society also works with City of Lancaster, with a member of the Society represented on the Historic Preservation Committee.
